Homophobia in Sport and the experiences of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender People in sport

Out on the Fields is the largest and was the first international study conducted into homophobia in sport. It was also the first to take an in-depth look at the experiences of gay, lesbian and bisexual people, including athletes, in sporting culture. The research provides data on discrimination they experience and their perceptions (e.g. safety, acceptance).

Five-Year Follow-Up Report

On Dec. 3, 2020, we launched a revamped website and released a peer-reviewed progress-report. It provided updated, detailed information and statistics about the experiences of gay, lesbian, bisexual as well as transgender people in sporting environments. The report investigates the lack of action by sport leaders to address the problems of homophobia and transphobia, despite the numerous commitments (see our new timeline) made to ‘tackle homophobia.’

Join us for our Out on the Fields Webinar Series where we will to share the latest science and research on both the problems and solutions.
